Project Brief

Located in the middle reach of Mai river in Ilam district of eastern part of Nepal, Mai Beni Hydropower Project is a Run-of-River type hydropower project with an installed capacity of 9.51 MW. The Project is the pilot project of Urja Developers Pvt. Ltd., and has embarked on construction since May 2018. The components of the project lie between an elevation of 490m and 645m above mean sea level. All the major components of the project are within 5 km distance from Mechi highway. At present, full-fledged construction works are ongoing.

Key Milestones
Power Purchase Agreement - Nov 2016

Power Purchase Agreement was signed with Nepal Electricity Authority in November 2016.

Generation License - Apr 2018

Generation License was obtained from the Department of Electricity Development in April 2018.

Construction Start - May 2018

The project embarked on construction in May 2018 after the award of civil works contract to CE construction.

Financial Closure - Dec 2018

Financial closure was concluded in December 2018 with Nepal SBI Bank Ltd. as a lead bank and Siddhartha Bank Ltd. as a member bank.

Required Commercial Operation Date - Nov 2021

The Required Commercial Operation Date (RCOD) as per the power purchase agreement is Nov 2021.
